Stimulating and Enhancing Proffesionalism of electro-installers
Project: B/06/B/FPP-144.343
Duration: 1.9. 2006 – 31. 8. 2008
Programme: Leonardo da Vinci
Throughout Europe, the electro-installation branch experiences problems in finding properly trained electricians who have an updated technical knowledge. A lot of workers in the sector do not dispose of a degree in electricity and/or do not have a solid technical background. Moreover, the sector is characterised by quick new evolutions and innovations: materials, tools and installation techniques are changing in a very quick way. As more and more computer and telecommunications technologies are integrated in the sector's activities, electricians must also become more sophisticated in their understanding of these technologies. Besides the insufficient number of applicants and the lack of technical knowledge, there is also a qualitative problem: applicants and workers are missing experience, communicative skills, self-reliance and accuracy. Insufficient motivation and a wrong attitude are considered as major problems. There are still other controversial issues in the electro-installation branch. One of them is the fact that low-skilled people who do not have a certificate of electrician are promoted because the employer does not find suitable candidates or technicians with a higher certificate.

Tempo's role
The project will focus on defining a European generic competence based on professional profile within the electro sector on developing an easy to use ICT tool for screening generic technical and behavioural competences of the collar worker, on leasing him/her towards relevant competence based training initiatives. Improving the welcoming policy by developing information material both for the employee and the employer is also part of the agenda
